Photo: EveryMac.comNot a day goes by or should I say minute goes by where there is not a new gadget being released somewhere in the world. Of course with that, I foolishly forgot that on Friday, the iPod celebrated it's 8th birthday.Hard to believe that a gadget such as this - one that you can find just about anywhere and everywhere is only 8.  I guess that a little more than 1 year for a dog, but in tech years, it's like a generation. The original iPod cost $500 and had a capacity of 5GB but unlike today's nano that had a solid state drive does photos and video and a whole lot more, this one actually had a hard drive in it.  It wouldn't be until 5 months later that you could get the 10GB model. It was white and used Firewire as an interface as opposed to USB 2.0 that it uses now. It has  2" mono screen witrh a resolution of 160 x128 and was only Mac Compatible. When you compare the latest hard drive based iPod - the iPod Classic it's only $279 and has a 160GB hard...

Do You Still Use Your Fax Machine?

Oct 14, 12:39 AM

Brother MFC-990CW      "Fax Machine? What's that?", the little boy said to his Dad.I've had a fax line with the same number for longer than I care to remember - but for some reason I have never given it up. Recently though, I decided to move the number to an existing number and add SmartRing allowing me to use that number on my main line for only $5 instead of paying for a complete line.We can talk about Smartring another time.I realised that I was only getting about 2 faxes a month, plus 1 annoying fax from Gary Hunt, an Edmonton Realtor and the guy who sell those Lawn Cards - where you get those buzzards on your lawn to remind you how old you are. I have asked Gary by fax, by phone and by email to please take me off his list, but alas he refuses. I guess he's never heard of the do not call list.  Again, lets keep that to another time.My question is - are fax machines still relevant?  If a company wants to send me a fax, I ask, do you have it in ele...

Back in July the price of the Dell Adamo was slashed $500US from $1999US to $1499US ($1644CDN).  Even after the drop, the price on the Dell Canada website remained at $2499CDN with no indication of an upcoming change. Read Greg's Article: What the Dell Happened Here!.So I went on line and engage one of the sales reps in the chat.  (See the transcript below), who promised to get back to me. He never did!  I monitored the site for a while - maybe a week or two at least to see if there was any change. There wasn't. I asked who in their right mind would pay a 50% premium?Having better things to do I went on to other gadgets. Looking today I see that price has dropped - but to $1999CDN($1899US) - still $400 higher.Yesterday I delivered a 3-hour seminar "Client Retention Strategies for the New Economy" at the Business Link (Canada Business Centre in Edmonton), where we looked at ways to keep your cleints while remaining viable and compeptive.  No I'm not just picked on De...
