Actually, I didn't teach him to do that. I was working on the computer one day and I heard a thump. It was Mickey, trying to get my attention by doing a sommersault! After that it was easy to get him to associate the work "trick" with the sommersault.

Mightymouse - I have NO idea - really and truely. I think the editor likes it. It shows an interesting animals doing a trick that takes thought, effort and a sense of understanding, rather than an animal doing what comes instinctively.

Ritat. Lots of cats can do somersaults. Sorry yours is not the only one. Nothing unusual about this. We have a cat rescue shelter & out of the 275 cats we have in this time we have seen about 50 or more do this.

You just have to watch some on youtube to see what we mean .Some do better than yours, some worse. But its a natural cat thing that I think does not take a lot of thought.

PS If you do win the contest I hope you will donate any winnings to a cat or dog rescue. A lot of videos & albums in this canoe contest have pledged their winnings if they get any. Many animals are needed homes & the rescue centers need all the help they can get .

I'm alittle miffed at some of the comments about Mickey. If it is a "natural" talent of cats, then wouldn't the talent be in Mickey understanding his owner and doing his sumersault on command? Hmmm, I think he is verrrry talented and should win! And perhaps if the owner were to be asked in a proper manner, rather than a comment sounding like a demand, she may very well donate winnings to help other animals. Thanks, Bozz. I, too, thought it unusual that he seemed to understand when I said "Not good enough. Do it again." He never does his trick when anyone else asks him too.

And I've been a huge supporter of our local shelter. I've donated, helped rescue animals (once got a call about a kitten trapped in a window well neck deep in water - her name became Aqua) and have acted as an emergency shelter for cats.
